The main focus for the Environmental Protection Team is the investigation of statutory nuisances under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
They also deal with air quality, foul and land drainage, contaminated land, caravan site licensing, public and private water supplies, swimming pools, regulated industrial processes, unauthorised encampments, biosolids and insecure buildings.
Environmental Services has various enforcement policies; these policies help officers to decide what action to take when faced with breaches of legislation. The options range from sending informal letters to the offenders to prosecuting them. The policies can be found in one policy document.
