People living in East Northamptonshire have just days left to apply to vote by post for the European Parliamentary election.
East Northamptonshire Council is making preparations for polling day on 23 May to elect East Midlands MEPs and must receive all applications for postal votes by 5pm Wednesday, 8 May. So if you’re away from home on election day and require a postal vote, you don’t need to wait until your poll card arrives, go to www.yourvotematters.co.uk/how-do-i-vote/voting-by-post where you can download the form and send it back to us at elections@east-northamptonshire.gov.uk or via post.
Postal vote packs will be delivered from Tuesday, 14 May so if you’re going to be away from home between then and the election, or otherwise cannot visit your polling station on voting day, you can apply for a proxy vote (when someone votes on your behalf) before 5pm, Wednesday 15 May at www.yourvotematters.co.uk/how-do-i-vote/voting-by-proxy Send your form back to us at elections@east-northamptonshire.gov.uk or via post.
Due to a shorter timescale for arranging the election, poll cards will be sent out later than usual and residents are urged to make their postal or proxy vote applications as soon as possible to ensure they are processed in time.
The deadline for registering to vote in this election is midnight on Tuesday, 7 May. Those registering to vote for the first time can do so online at www.gov.uk/registertovote If you are unsure whether or not you are registered to vote, please do not wait for your poll card to arrive – check today by contacting the Council’s Electoral Services team on 01832 742155 or via email at elections@east-northamptonshire.gov.uk
Residents are reminded that there are no local council elections in East Northamptonshire on 2 May after they were postponed by the Government for a year in the light of proposals to restructure councils in Northamptonshire. Any polling cards you receive in the coming days will be for the European election only.
