North Northamptonshire has been named one of five areas in the country to be selected for a programme to implement the vision for the area that will support high quality places to live.
The Joint Planning Unit, which supports, Corby, East Northamptonshire, Kettering, Wellingborough and Northamptonshire County councils submitted the bid for the area.
The Future Place programme, which is delivered by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), Local Government Association (LGA) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), promotes best practice and innovative delivery at local level.
Bradford, Great Exeter, Great Yarmouth, Gateshead and North Northamptonshire have been selected based on their visions to deliver meaningful change that will improve community wellbeing and create sustainable environments.
Cllr David Jenney, Chairman of the North Northamptonshire Joint Planning Committee is delighted that North Northamptonshire is one of just five places, chosen from over 40 bids, to take part in the Future Place initiative:
“It’s excellent that North Northamptonshire has been recognised as somewhere that is working hard to raise the quality of new development and to improve existing places through good design.
“We have adopted strong design policies in the Core Strategy and our Joint Planning and Delivery Unit provides exceptional design expertise to support the partner local planning authorities in considering development proposals.
“We have been extremely successful in attracting support from the Government and organisations such as the Commission for Architecture and the Architecture Centre for the East Midlands.
“The Future Place initiative will allow us to build on this success, with training and expert advice from the professional bodies involved, and the opportunity to learn from good practice elsewhere. Most importantly, it will help us to continue to promote North Northamptonshire as a superb place to live, work and invest in.”
