Notification of advance improvement works - A45 / at Chowns Mill roundabout

Published Friday, 18 January 2019

The below information has been sent to us from Highways England and is shown as sent:

I am writing to let you know that we will be carrying out advance work to the existing carriageway on the A45 / A6 Chowns Mill roundabout. View the closure plan.

This is essential preparatory work for our main Chowns Mill roundabout improvement scheme, scheduled for early 2020.

The work will involve the installation of new duct crossings under the carriageway for utility and telecom providers, site clearance and excavation of trial pits to locate and hot tap a MOD redundant oil pipeline. By combining these works in one scheme we will reduce overall disruption to road users and the local community.

When will the work take place?

Work is due to start in early March 2019 and the scheme is scheduled for completion by the end of April 2019.

It is not possible to excavate, install the required utilities ducts and fully reinstate the carriageway within a working window of a night closure. Therefore, we will work under full carriageway closures:

• between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Thursday (week night closures)
• from 8pm Friday until 6am Monday (full weekend closures)

Please note that all our planned roadworks may be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

How will the work affect traffic?

To maintain a safe environment for our workforce and customers, sections of the A45 / A6 will be closed to through traffic while we work and a 40mph speed restriction will be put in place on these arms of the roundabout.

During these closures we will in place fully signed diversion routes which have been agreed with the Local Authority .

Please refer to the attached drawing for further detailed information.

How will the work affect businesses and residents?

We will make sure that access to businesses and residences is maintained wherever possible.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will do our very best to complete the work as quickly as possible, keeping disturbances and noise to a minimum.

Network Rail's work at A45 Higham Road Bridge

From 4th February, Network Rail is scheduled to start work on the A45 at Higham Road Bridge. The bridge, which carries the westbound A45 dual carriageway, needs to be reconstructed to allow safe clearance from Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) that will be installed as part of the electrification of the Midland Main Line. To deliver the work safely and minimise disruption to road users, Network Rail will install a contraflow along this section of the A45.

Highways England is liaising with Network Rail to ensure our schemes can co-exist and we minimise disruptionto road users and the local community. If you have any enquiries about this work, please contact Network Rail:
