Residents find out more about East Northamptonshire Local Plan

Published Tuesday, 11 December 2018

Residents from across the district came together at two public consultation events for the Local Plan Part 2.

Which set out the local detail of the future of planning, policy and growth in East Northamptonshire.

The events, organised by East Northamptonshire Council, were held in the north and south of the district to enable residents of both areas the opportunity to come along and find out more about the draft East Northamptonshire Local Plan and submit their comments.

Questions raised by residents were about housing sites, local infrastructure, housing for the elderly, numbers of developments proposed and the process of the East Northamptonshire Local Plan. Planning officers were on hand to answer questions, explain details of the plan and ensure that residents left with a broader understanding of the plan and the process it will follow. North attendees also took away information sheets which are available at

The district-wide site specific development plan will enable the council to guide the determination of planning applications and will support the strategic policies of the Local Plan Part 1 (North Northamptonshire Core Spatial strategy).

The Local Plan Part 2 sets out a strategy for the future of East Northamptonshire, building on the proposals as set out in the North Northamptonshire Joint Core Strategy 2011-31 (Local Plan Part 1). It seeks to add local value through its policies and support the growth of business opportunities across the district and ensure the district’s market towns remain thriving and competitive by encouraging town centre regeneration schemes to encourage future redevelopment opportunities.

The plan seeks to support rural communities to ensure they have the ability to meet local need and have opportunities to improve local connections, create local employment prospects and develop tourism opportunities.

Paul Bland, Head of Planning Services, said: “We’d like to thank everyone who came along to these events and encourage those who couldn’t attend to have their say via the link on our website.  We had some good discussions with residents who are clearly very interested in the East Northamptonshire Local Plan and the opportunities it presents for growth in the district. Public feedback on plans such as these is so important in ensuring that local views have been taken into consideration and have helped shaped the final plan.

“Consultation runs until 17 December so there’s still time to have your say. After that, we will collate all of the responses and a report will go the Planning Policy committee in February 2019 where councillors and officers will discuss and agree any amends to the plan before it’s submitted for inspection later in 2019.”
