East Northamptonshire Council (ENC) has won the Active Workplace of the Year Award at the Northamptonshire Sports Awards 2017.
Each year the awards recognise and thank the individuals and organisations who work so hard to help make sport happen in the county.
ENC committed to developing staff health and wellbeing by employing a Healthy and Active Lifestyle’s Officer. As part of their role, they have implemented a range of workplace health initiatives to support colleagues in becoming more active including in house events, competitions, health walks, jogging groups, a corporate gym membership scheme and various challenges including a traditional sports day and table tennis programme.
Joe Bailey, Healthy and Active Lifestyle’s Officer at ENC, said: “We spend a large amount of time at work and it’s not always easy to find time to focus on your health and wellbeing when we all lead such busy lives so I’m really pleased to be able to support my colleagues in getting more active by offering activities for them to join in with to fit around their working day. The feedback from colleagues has been so positive as the activities make being active sociable and fun!
“We’re really proud to have been recognised by N-Sport for this award and I look forward to introducing more fun activities in 2018 so that our workforce can remain healthy and continue to provide excellent services to the residents of East Northamptonshire.”
ENC Leader, Councillor Steven North, added: “We are absolutely delighted to have received this award. Staff health and wellness not only benefits our staff but our organisation as a whole. It’s so important we provide our staff with the proper tools and opportunities where they can flourish and be healthy.”
