If you’re planning that special Christmas meal with friends, family or work colleagues, East Northamptonshire Council is reminding you to check the food hygiene rating before you book.
Christmas is a time to enjoy good company and good food without worrying about what’s happening in the kitchen. There’s one easy way to set your mind at rest – visit http://ratings.food.gov.uk/ or download the free Food Hygiene Standards app to check the rating.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) rates food businesses on their hygiene standards, based on inspections carried out by our food safety officers. Businesses are rated on a scale ranging from 0 which means ‘urgent improvement necessary’ to a top rating of 5 which is ‘very good.’
95% of food businesses in East Northamptonshire are rated 4 or 5 so there are plenty of places to choose from not only at Christmas, but all year round!
Steven North, Leader of East Northamptonshire Council, said: “Whether you’re sitting down to a three course meal or grabbing a sandwich on the go, take a moment to check the food hygiene rating. It’s quick and easy to find and could save you or a loved one from food poisoning over the festive period.”
