Encouraging residents to do their Christmas shopping locally

Those who choose to shop in East Northamptonshire will have more cash for festive gifts and goodies thanks to the free council run car parks in each of the six towns.

East Northamptonshire boasts 14 free car parks with generous time allowances, so shoppers can take their time searching for that perfect gift this Christmas.

East Northamptonshire Council Leader, Cllr Steven North, says: “We want to encourage residents to do their Christmas shopping locally, to support the independent and high street shops on their doorstep.  By offering free parking all year round, but particularly at Christmas, shoppers and visitors can enjoy a great variety of shops and excellent Christmas events hosted by our towns.”

Shoppers and visitors may also be interested to know that five of our car parks have received the prestigious Park Mark award which is given by the Police to car parks that have achieved the standards of the Safer Parking Scheme. The scheme aims to reduce crime and the fear of crime in car parks.

The Duck Street, John Street, Rectory Road (Orchard Place) and Splash car parks in Rushden and the Sackville Street in Thrapston have met strict criteria demonstrating a safe, clean, quality parking environment– an important assurance for many families and shoppers.
