Changes in circumstances affecting your Housing Benefit

Changes in circumstances affecting your Housing Benefit

If you have a change in your circumstances you must inform East Northamptonshire Council, in writing and as soon as possible, preferable within one month. This is because some changes will affect your benefit entitlement.

For example if you or anyone in your home:

  • Stops or starts receiving Income Support or income based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Stops or starts working or the number of hours worked changes
  • Stops or starts getting any other benefit or allowance
  • Has any other changes in income or savings
  • Comes to live in or leaves your home
  • Moves out even temporarily, including stays in hospital

It is essential to tell the council as quickly as possible because any changes that mean your Housing Benefit needs to increase can only be paid from the Monday following the date you let us know. Please also remember that if your circumstances change significantly there might be other benefits you are entitled to.
