Article 4 Direction
An Article 4 Direction is a planning tool that can be used to remove 'permitted development rights' to carry out certain types of development without needing planning permission. The effect of an Article 4 Direction is that planning permission is required for development that would otherwise not require an application.

The Article 4 Directions differ from area to area and therefore we advise you to check the above Directions to see whether permission may be needed before carrying out an external alterations to the buildings within these areas.
Immediate Article 4 Direction: Birch Bros Bus Depot, Higham Road, Rushden
The council has made an immediate Article 4 Direction covering the former Birch Bros Bus Depot, Higham Road, Rushden. The direction withdraws the permitted development right concerning demolition, meaning that the demolition of the building will now require planning permission.
The direction will expire within a period of six months unless confirmed by the council before the end of this period.
The council welcomes representations about this. Any representations that are received in writing will be taken into account in deciding whether to confirm the making of the Article 4 Direction. The consultation period runs from 15 October 2020 to 27 November 2020 at 5:00 pm Representations should be sent by e-mail to planning@East-Northamptonshire.gov.uk, quoting the reference A412020, or by hard copy to Planning Services, East Northamptonshire Council, Cedar Drive, Thrapston, NN14 4LZ.
