Article 4 Directions

Article 4 Direction

An Article 4 Direction is a planning tool that can be used to remove 'permitted development rights'  to carry out certain types of development without needing planning permission. The effect of an Article 4 Direction is that planning permission is required for development that would otherwise not require an application. They are made in order to protect the character of a particular area.

Is my property covered by an Article 4 Direction?

The are four villages to the north of the district that have Article 4 Directions applied to them:

The Article 4 Directions differ from settlement to settlement and therefore we advise you to check with us to see whether permission may be needed before carrying out an external alterations to the buildings in these areas.

Brigstock Article 4 Direction

On 9 January 2016 the Council made an Article 4 Direction which covers the Brigstock Conservation Area. It will come into force on 1 June 2018.
