What are these?
A private water supply is any supply of drinking water not provided by a licensed water company – e.g. Anglian Water.
Control of private water supplies
The Private Water Supplies Regulations 2009 are concerned with the wholesomeness of water obtained from private supplies and requires the council to undertake risk assessments of large supplies and to undertake sampling of supplies that feed more than one property in accordance with set legal parameters. Charges for these apply and can be found within the Council's fees and charges.
Where supplies fail to meet the set standards the council is required to issue legal notices to ensure the supply users are aware of the failure and that steps are taken to ensure the supply passes the retest.
