The Electoral Register canvass is coming!

The annual canvass is coming! From the end of June onwards, you will receive a Register of Electors 2012 form through your letterbox.

Look out for it because it’s important. You need to respond to stay on the electoral register so that you can vote in future elections, including the Police and Crime Commissioner election in November and the County Council election next summer.

This year, the Electoral Services teams of East Northamptonshire, Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough, Daventry, Northampton and South Northamptonshire councils are working together to ensure that those who are eligible to vote are registered. Each household in the county will be asked to confirm or add all eligible electors who are living at the address including those who will soon become 18.

If there are no changes to be made to the details given on the form you can respond online, text message or using the free phone number. Full details of how to register can be found on your registration form.

More and more, the Register of Electors is being used to confirm someone's address, especially if they are applying for credit such as a mortgage, personal loan or even a mobile phone. If you are not registered to vote you will probably be refused credit as well as losing your right to have your say at the ballot box.

The Electoral Register is updated each year. You must provide the information requested by law - if you do not respond to the annual canvass request or provide false information on the form, you may be liable to a fine of up to £1,000.
