Recycling collections

What goes in the different boxes

East Northamptonshire Council provides a three box recycling scheme throughout the district. The red and green recycling boxes are collected fortnightly on alternate weeks. The blue recycling box is collected once every four weeks. All boxes are collected on the same day as your refuse, but may be collected at different times of the day as separate vehicles are used. You can recycle the following materials using the recycling box schemes:

Your Red Box should be used for the collection ofRed recycling box

  • Paper (loose - not in plastic bags)
  • newspapers
  • magazines
  • junk mail
  • catalogues
  • yellow pages  

Things we don't want in your Red Box:
Card/cardboard or shredded paper.
Please note: Shredded paper can be home composted

The Green box should be used for the collection of:Green recycling box

  • Food, drink, and pet food cans - wash and squash if possible
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Plastic bottles (no other plastic items) - tops off and squash if possible
  • Card and cardboard including drinks cartons and Tetra Paks - please flatten boxes and cartons
  • Clothes and shoes (tied in pairs) - please place in a tied carrier bag

If you have too much to go in your green box for one collection you can put extra green box materials in carrier bags clearly marked 'RECYCLING' and place the bags next to your green box on collection day (please do not use black refuse sacks, as they may be mistaken for refuse). You can use your red or blue boxes for excess green box materials if there is no paper or glass already in them.

What we don't want in the Green Box Plastics other than plastic bottles (such as yoghurt pots, flower pots, margarine tubs, food trays, cling film, toys and housewares, polystyrene), glass, paint tins, engine oil containers, foil, dirty rags, bed sheets, pillows or other bed linen.

The Blue box should be used for the collection of:Blue recycling box

  • Glass bottles - all colours, shapes
  • Glass jars - all colours, shapes and sizes

What we don't want in the Blue Box
Windscreen or window glass Light bulbs or fluorescent tubes Cooking glassware such as Pyrex or Visionware other kitchen glassware, broken glass, lids or bottle tops.
