Circular walking routes are an ideal introduction to the area and some of the routes focus around the villages of Fotheringhay and Woodnewton, Aldwincle and Wadenhoe and Nassington and Yarwell.

Follow the Nene Way along the banks of the river for part or all of its 70 miles as it goes "up hill and down dale", or the Jurassic Way, a former prehistoric trackway which closely follows the course of the River Welland. Explore the Lyveden Way, a picturesque 9.5 mile route through part of the Rockingham Forest, beginning at Fermyn Woods Country Park.
