Green Waste ClubGet recycling your green waste with the Green Waste Club

Working in partnership with Verdant Group, East Northamptonshire Council operates an innovative collection service for green waste.  The Green Waste Club offers a convenient and cost effective way to recycle your green waste.

For a small fee you can hire a brown 240 litre wheeled bin to collect and store your green waste in.  This can hold the equivalent of up to six sacks of green waste.  On your scheduled collection day, once a fortnight, leave your bin at your usual refuse and recycling collection point and Verdant's crew will collect and empty it.  The green waste will then be taken to a local composting facility where it is composted on an industrial scale to make an agricultural soil conditioner or the base for an environmentally friendly compost.

What can go into your brown bin?

  • Grass clippings
  • Prunings
  • Fallen leaves
  • Plants
  • Flowers
  • Weeds
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Twigs/woody material (less than 50mm/2 inches thickness)

What cannot go into the brown bin:

  • Kitchen waste including eggshells, fruit/vegetable peelings and tea bags (This is because of government regulations to prevent the spread of foot and mouth disease)
  •  soil and rubble
  • woody branches over 50mm/2 inches thick.

When does the scheme operate?

The scheme operates all year apart from over the Christmas and New Year holiday fortnight.

How to join and what it costs

From 1 April 2010, the cost of membership to the end of March 2011 is £41. Delivery of your wheelie bin normally costs £11.17 per household but as an extra incentive at the moment the Council is offering free delivery.
