East Northamptonshire Council

Debt Enforcement Figures

We collect council tax from over 37,000 households in East Northamptonshire and the majority of our council tax payers pay on time. Almost four out of every five people now pay council tax by Direct Debit in East Northamptonshire.

Our council tax billing and recovery team work very hard to ensure we collect council tax promptly and efficiently.

Equita Ltd, our bailiffs, collect council tax arrears on our behalf only when all our attempts to collect payment have been unsuccessful.

We ask the courts to send non-payers to prison only as a very last resort and we make every effort to collect payment before we consider this option.

If you are having difficulty paying your council tax, you may wish to see our

The number of committal summonses has fallen since the courts increased the amount they charge us for each summons from £65 to £240. Despite this, we have maintained our excellent collection record.
