East Northamptonshire Council

Household bulky waste collections

East Northamptonshire Council provides a household bulky waste collection service to all households in the district on request. The service is charged for, and must be pre-arranged and paid for, before collection can be organised.

How much does it cost?

The following charge applies to the service: £21 for up to seven items of household bulky waste for collection between 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011.

Payment methods

You can arrange this service online, at bulky collection requests. On payment, we will take details of the collection address, what items must be collected, and the exact location of the items, eg rear garden, front garden etc.

Payment can also be made over the telephone with a credit/debit card by calling our Waste Management helpline on 01832 742026; or in person by cheque or credit/debit card (we cannot accept cash payments) at our Customer Service Centres at Cedar Drive, Thrapston, West Street, Oundle or Newton Road, Rushden.

Alternatively, cheques, made payable to East Northamptonshire Council, can be posted with your name, address, the items to be collected and where they will be left.

After you have paid, the items must be left outside, ready for collection from 7am the next working day.  Your items will be collected within seven working days.  Please be aware that once your order has been placed you cannot add any further items to your list.

What can be collected?

As a general rule these collections are only for items that you would take with you when you move house such as:

  • Bed (headboard, mattress and base count as three items)
  • Bookcase
  • Chest of drawers
  • Computer monitor/TV
  • Desk
  • Dining room chairs (four count as one item)
  • Fridge/freezer
  • Sofa
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Washing machine

Items excluded from the bulky household waste collection

We are unable to collect DIY/demolition waste or fixtures and fittings under this service for example:

  • Bathroom suites
  • Kitchen units
  • Window units/glass
  • Doors
  • Bricks
  • Rubble
  • Soil

If you have any of these items for collection, then you can contact Cory Environmental Municipal Services on 01933 410354 for a quote. Alternatively, you can approach companies listed in your local directory.

Asbestos

We cannot take asbestos on our household bulky waste collections.  Northamptonshire County Council offer a permit scheme for taking limited amounts of this potentially harmful material to their Brackmills waste transfer station in Northampton.  Please look at the Pollution Control - asbestos page for more information.

For larger amounts of asbestos, or if you do not want to handle this material, please look in your local directory or on the internet for specialist companies that are equipped to deal with this material.
