East Northamptonshire Council

Collection of bulky items

East Northamptonshire Council offers a household bulky waste collection service for all households in the district on request. The service is charged for, and must be pre-arranged and paid for, before collection can be organised.

How much does it cost?

For £24.00 we will collect up to seven items of bulky household waste.

Payment methods

You can arrange this service online, using the bulky collection request form. On payment, we will take details of the collection address, what the items for collection are, and the location of the items, eg rear garden, front garden etc.

Payment can also be made over the telephone with a credit/debit card by calling our waste management helpline on 01832 742026; or in person by cheque or credit/debit card (we cannot accept cash payments) at our Customer Service Centres at Cedar Drive, Thrapston; Newton Road, Rushden and 4 New Street, Oundle . Alternatively, cheques, made payable to East Northamptonshire Council, can be posted with your name, address, the items to be collected and where they will be left.

Within one working day after you have paid our contractor, Kier, will contact you to arrange a date to come and collect your items.  The items must be left outside, ready for collection on that designated date.  Please be aware that once your order has been placed you cannot add any further items to your list.

What can be collected?

As a general rule these collections are only for items that you would take with you when you move house such as:

  • Bed (headboard, mattress and base count as three items)
  • Bookcase
  • Chest of drawers
  • Computer monitor/TV
  • Desk
  • Dining room chairs (four count as one item)
  • Fridge/freezer

  • Doors
  • Bricks
  • Rubble

Household Waste Recycling Centres

Bulky household items may also be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre (often known as the Tip or Dump).  Please see Northamptonshire County Council's website for a full list of sites and other information about them.

Asbestos

We cannot take asbestos on our household bulky waste collections.  Northamptonshire County Council offer a permit scheme for taking limited amounts of this potentially harmful material to their Brackmills waste transfer station in Northampton.  Please look at the Pollution Control - asbestos page for more information.

For larger amounts of asbestos, or if you do not want to handle this material yourself, please look in your local directory or on the internet for specialist companies that are equipped to deal with this material.
