YEN Conference 2014
What is the YEN conference?
The annual Youth in East Northamptonshire (YEN) conference took place on 12 November 2014 at the Pemberton Centre, Rushden. The theme for this year's event was elections and democracy and was full of interactive tasks and activities. We called it 'the real X Factor' to help explain the process of voting and how young people can have their say.
From the day
The MPs who cover Rushden and East Northamptonshire held a question and answer session.
For photos from the conference visit our YEN conference gallery.
All students who attended the conference were invited to tell us what they thought of it. Here is a selection of their comments.
"We enjoyed working with other people as a team and making new friends."
"I thought the YEN conference was really fun and enjoyable."
"I found it a good opportunity to express my views on voting."
"It gave us an idea of which people to go to if we have an issue."
"It gave me confidence to express my opinion."
History of voting
We've prepared a short presentation to help you understand the history of voting and democracy in the UK.
Registering to vote
If you're not on the register, you can't vote in local or general elections. Find out more on our register to vote page.
Have your say
Petitions are a great way for people to tell us their concerns. We welcome petitions with 50 or more signatures. For more information download our petitions scheme.
In 2011, the Government introduced a new website for registering e-petitions. Any e-petition that reaches 100,000 signatures can be passed to the House of Commons Backbench Business Committee.
